Team Mercy in Motion Found Success at NU Hartford Marathon 5k

team_mercy_hartford_marathon.jpgKristen Fiola, DPT, and Kim Cooper, both from ProEx Farmington, led 15-20 walk/runners through a 6 week training program that met once a week. The mission of their group, Team Mercy in Motion, was, in partnership with Blueback Insurance, to run a 5k and raise money for the Mercy House, which is a homeless shelter in Hartford, CT. The group raised over $400 and presented this to Mercy House prior to the NU Hartford Marathon 5k road race on Saturday, October 11th. Despite the rain and freezing cold weather on race day, all of the runners on Team Mercy in Motion completed the 5k. In addition to Kristen and Kim, Ryan Maloney and Lloyd Hamilton from ProEx completed the 5k race. Lloyd achieved a PR, and Ryan came in second overall for the group in his first ever 5k! Along side ProEx staff members, three previous patients completed the race, one came in first, one ran the whole thing, and one ran and walked the 5k but ran for the first time in over 30 years and post-ACL surgery to boot! Tina McDonald, Regional Clinical Director, and Lisa Gearhart, Community Relations Specialist, worked the ProEx booth where they were able to discuss injury prevention with participants and their families.
