Matt McManus, co-owner of ProEx and co-chair American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) of MA Payment and Policy Committee, attended the 2013 APTA of MA Combined Special Interest Group (SIG) Meeting on Saturday, March 16th at Massachusetts Medical Society in Waltham, MA. Also in attendance were State Representative Carlo Basile and State Senator Richard Moore, both of whom were awarded ‘Legislator of the Year 2012’ from APTA of MA.
Matt spoke about the 1st Annual Physical Therapy Advocacy Day coming up at the State House on Thursday, March 28th. APTA of MA has successfully recruited 300 PTs, PTAs, and students from across the state to converge on the State House on the 28th to meet each and every State Senator, introduce them to PT, and ask for their support regarding the three bills that have been filed and are currently in the House, namely term protection for physical therapists, establishment of a physical therapy licensing board and decreasing client co-payments.
“It has been very rewarding to work with like-minded individuals in our professional organization during the past year in areas such as advocacy and health care reform," said Matt. "Though many challenges still face our industry, I’m confident we’ll succeed in positioning ourselves as a primary choice for non-emergent, orthopedic conditions. To do this, we need more involvement from our membership, across all disciplines…private practice, institutional-based, academic programs, and of course students. Our 1st Annual PT Advocacy Day at the State House on March 28th is a great start. We need to build on this event through 2013 and continue to meet with our state legislators to tell our story and the stories of our patients.”
