We are a Hingham Massachusetts based corporation whose mission is to raise awareness and funds toward a cure through research for type 1 diabetes (T1D). Without a cure, this disease is expected to affect 5 million people in the U.S. by 2050. Type One is the host of Renegade Run Obstacle Course Race, now in its 6th year, a 4-mile run through Wompatuck State Park in Hingham with over 25 obstacles placed along the course. We bring thousands of people together to participate in a competitive obstacle course race and celebrate at South Shore’s Biggest Block Party after the race. Our profits are donated directly to the Faustman Lab at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) to find a cure for type 1 diabetes. Sharing our joint vision of reversing T1D in humans is Denise Faustman, MD, PhD, director of the MGH Immunobiology Laboratory. The Faustman Lab is leading the way with phase II human clinical trials testing the ability of the generic vaccine bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) to regenerate the pancreas in diabetics and reverse advanced T1D. Type One is proud to bring the community together in an event to raise awareness and funds to support the work of the Faustman Lab.

Renegade Run Obstacle Course Race is not your typical obstacle course – it is an experience where the community and families come together. What makes us different? Come join us on Sunday, October 22nd to find out for yourself. Set up in picturesque Wompatuck State Park, Hingham, Renegade Run is a challenging course leading you through a mixture of paved trails and wooded terrain. Our obstacles will certainly be a challenge, but attainable for everyone. Come explore over 25 obstacles spread over the 4 miles of our beautiful scenic course. Monkey bars to cross, walls to climb, tunnels to crawl through and our cargo net climb are just a few that await our Renegades. In addition to the inspiring (and sometimes amusing) signage dotting the course, our cheerful team of volunteers will be providing enthusiastic support to encourage our runners along.

This is a very unique race, not only in the course design and the atmosphere, but how we at Type One bring together a community committed to a cure for type 1 diabetes. We do this by creating the South Shore’s Biggest Block Party. Post run activities features a live concert, beer tent, food prepared on the grounds and lots of activities, including a Mini Renegade Run for the kids. This year we are offering a competitive heat with cash prizes as well as a referral incentive discount for racers who want to start a team. The course is open to the public so you can cheer on, take pictures or meet your runner anywhere along the route. There will be free tech t-shirts for all registrants, a complimentary beer for those 21+, and finisher medals for those who complete the run, free parking and no spectator fee.
